DOLOROSA DE LOS LLANOS
Playing at being a girl, wearing your mother`s clothes or being discovered with painted lips were always grounds for punishment. “Painful (“dolorosas”) your pink wooden sandals and high heels, painful all your necklaces, painful your lip paints, your pantyhose and your slack command.”
Now, to the sound of arrows and processional rolls, Dolorosa shows a body that feasts and suffers, that prays and sins, that is shamed and exalted, that is scourged and empowered.
The Latin-American plain landscapelies in front of us. On the horizon apath is outlined, on which both sidesthe virgins appear at night, and at thecrossroads we run into the demonsand the crying women of Latin-American mythology.
One night, Dolorosa decides to go outat the forbidden hour, the only timeshe can afford to play safely, just fora little while. Just at the time whenthe legends go for a walk on the plainand the workers rest inside theirranches, Dolorosa meets a strange religiousprocession.
Dolorosa de los Llanos undertakes ascenic investigation centred on theritual of the religious procession:walking as an act of faith andredemption.
